Agreement Diagram

Background: When assessing the concordance between two methods of measuring ordinal categorical data, summary measures such as Cohen`s (1960) kappa or Bangdilala`s (1985) kappa statistics are used. However, an image conveys more information than a single summary measurement. Methodology. We describe how the Man Bangdilala (1985) correspondence table constructs, interprets and illustrates its use in the visual evaluation of concordance in several clinical sample applications. Results: Correspondence graphs provide a visual impression that no summary statistics can convey, and summary statistics reduce information to a single characteristic of the data. However, the visual impression is personal and subjective and usually not reproducible from one reader to another. Conclusions: The correlation table should be used to supplement kappa or B summary statistics, not to replace them. Graphs can be very useful for researchers as an early step in understanding the relationships in their data when assessing concordance. The chord diagram is a visual representation of a square contingency table k by k. Each black rectangle represents the margin sums of the rows and columns. The shaded areas represent the correspondence according to the frequencies of the diagonal cells. They are positioned in the rectangles using the sum of the cell frequencies outside diagonal of the same row and column. Partial matching in cells outside the diagonal can be represented in the same way, reducing shading as a function of distance from the diagonal. The visualization is influenced by the order of the categories, so the graph is only useful for ordinal or binary data. The chart can have the origin in the lower left corner or top left, where it more clearly mimics the contingency table. The perfect match is represented by rectangles, all of which are perfect squares, with corners on the diagonal identity line and with shaded boxes corresponding to the rectangle. A lower correspondence is represented by the area of the shaded areas with respect to the area of the rectangles. The drawing of rectangles, because they differ from the identity line by 45 degrees, represents a distortion in the margin sums.

B252, B253, B253 offer only the scope of services. Must be combined with B102™, Owner/Architect Contract without predefined scope of architect services or other owner/architect contract. Bangdiwala (2013) developed the chord diagram in addition to the kappa or B statistics. It is invaluable for evaluating correspondence because it gives a visual impression that no rough statistic can convey. A correspondence diagram shows the agreement between two binary or semi-quantitative methods.
